“Driver I dey go garrison, I hold N1000, you get change?”

This is one of the funniest things you will hear from passengers on a hot sunny day, Trust the drivers, they will always carry an angry face that seems to ask you if they are CBN, “But how man go do, enter we go find change when we reach” they would reply, even when they are yet to make their first trip for the day.

When it comes to the home or do I say, the hub of electronics and “sharp sharp” sales of gadgets, trust garrison to be your surest plug. Coming to Port Harcourt for the first time, Garrison was one of the worst places I was scared of visiting.

“Bros you wan sell your phone? What about that one way you hold, you no go sell am?” Even as a pedestrian, you will still see these boys hustling for their daily bread, their die-hard attitude and mentality, should be studied at Harvard, sorry, I mean Uniport.

Everyone claims to have a shop and as I said, their mentality should be studied at Harvard, oops!!! Uniport. So what are those things you should know, or be aware of before buying or repairing your gadget in Garrison?

Here are the TEN MUST KNOW GARRISON FORMULAS:

Number 1

If you’re new to the town, going to Garrison alone is a big No. No matter how wise you think you are, always try to go with someone and not just anyone but someone with garrison experience.

Number 2

Avoid those boys you see outside calling you “fine girl, chairman, senior man” and all those fancy names. Avoid them, avoid them like a plague, and while avoiding bros and sisters in the lord hold gadgets tight.

Number 3

Don’t put up that “I’m new here” or “confused look”? Please don’t, because these boys are just like hunters, they can smell and sense you’re a newbie, which will give them the opportunity to elevate you from customer to their afternoon office.

Number 4

How about your wallet, bags, phones, and other valuables? They should be kept or held properly; nobody is your friend. Shine your eyes.

Number 5

If you’re going to get a phone either brand new or fairly used, make sure to at least enter a shop, don’t be in haste to do a transaction, until you smartly recognize the person in charge. Don’t just trust anyone there. Do well to check and even re-check the phone properly. If you feel like patronizing the sweet and fancy name-calling boys, then you should be prepared to bring your mean attitude and vigilant attitude to the fore.

Number 6

Do you have a budget for what you want to buy? Bros abeg, stick to your budget, in fact, hold that same amount because their sweet words can make you overpay, if you think I’m lying, ask Obi Cubana.

Number 7

“I need a new laptop, my friend bought from garrison and I must go there”, when you know nothing about Laptop RAM, Processor or even the Generation of the Laptop, then your name is “SORRY”.  You have to be knowledgeable or like I earlier said, go with someone, not a JJC (Johnny Just Come).

Number 8

The No Return Policy is like the “Holy Gray” as they don’t care if you bought the gadget a day before. The worst is if you buy from the sweet fancy talking boys (You may not see them after they have sold the item to you and trust me, you won’t be able to sell it for half the price you initially bought it).

Number 9

Are you going to repair your faulty gadget? First, just be prepared to spend the whole of the day there because these people can be annoying, and that’s if they don’t ask you to come back the next day. Don’t be scared to tell them that you won’t cover any additional cost if they damage any other thing while trying to fix the main problem.

Number 10

When it comes to your gadget, don’t give any random person to go and look for a buyer for you, or even the faulty parts. Remember these boys are not your friends, so they can so with your gadget or even change it, so you must be well organized and defensive like the Super Falcons against Morocco.
