A TECH LOVE STORY: TWO PORT HARCOURT TECH FOUNDERS SAYS “I DO”

BecomingOG: The Tech Love Story

Those outside the tech community believe that techies hardly find the time to connect with other people and thus do not have a balanced life, including “LOVE”.

The question we all seek answers to is, IS THAT TRUE?

Well, this love story I’m about to share with you from the tech community of Port Harcourt is set to answer that question.

When Godwin had sent a simple DM via Twitter to Owanate asking if she had arrived home safely on December 11th, 2019, after a tech conference, they never envisioned it would lead to the glorious oath “I DO.”

With a simple yet unique wedding theme, ‘BecomingOG’ has been on the lips of every techie in the city of Port Harcourt since the unveiling of a date for the wedding.

While it is still a wedding, the buzz surrounding this particular union is simply because it is the joining of two tech founders and experts.

Godwin Jimmy Akpabio (the groom) is a native of Onna Local Government Area, Eket, Akwa Ibom. He is the founder of Accelerate Innovation Hub, a tech community at River State University (RSU) that facilitates students’ journeys into tech by creating an enabling environment for tech advocates, newbies, and tech experts to thrive.

He is also the Chief Technology Officer at Dantown and Hara Africa.

The bride, Princess Owanate Amachree is an indigene of Rivers State. She is a technical content developer, blockchain UX researcher, and the founder of Techrity Innovation Foundation, a tech community and non-profit organization focused on onboarding new talents into tech, bridging the unemployment gap, and building innovative solutions for social good in Africa.

Fate brought them together at a tech event hosted by the groom at Rivers State University on December 11th, 2019. The event was a female-focused tech conference tagged “Opportunities for Females in Tech.”

Here, Miss Owanate, also establishing her path in tech, had come as a representative of one of the speakers.

After a brief interaction between them that same day, the couple decided to pick up the conversation further via Twitter, and thus they exchanged contacts.

Owanate (the bride) didn’t see that the controversial topics of stories like this, about which she frequently gave opinions on her WhatsApp status as far back as 2019, would also shed light on her love life.

What started off as a “tech bro” connecting with a “tech sis” at a tech event is eventually leading to forever.

Hey, tech bro! Attend tech events and meet that tech sis!

Dear tech sis! Reply to your DM.

After a series of texts and calls, the duo had their first date six months after their first conversation, on July 18, 2020, at M and I Restaurant in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

It was the beginning of something special.

On June 12, 2022, at South 65, Port Harcourt, Nigeria, in the presence of close friends, Godwin Jimmy (the groom) went on his knees and popped the forever question, to which Owanate Amachree (the bride) responded in the affirmative. SHE SAID YES.
